Description

Course Overview

Firefox Training offers these nationally recognised units of competency to individuals who perform design activities relating to selected fire safety systems in NSW under the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS). Fire Systems Design covers the preparation of designs to a required standard, where the final design documentation outlines the requisite design criteria and provides documentation for procurement / manufacture / construction / installation / and commissioning by competent personnel.

Fire Systems Design

The Fire Systems Design (FSD) class accredits individuals who perform design activities relating to selected fire safety systems. The Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) currently covers activities associated with 3 types of fire safety systems. These three (3) areas of work form the current available categories of Fire Systems Design:

  • Fire Sprinkler Systems
  • Fire Hydrant and Hose Reel Systems
  • Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

Units of Competency

For a student to be awarded the units required to apply for NSW Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme — Fire Systems Design, they must successfully complete all 4 common units of competency below + any other units required based on the fire system design categories needed. In order to apply for this, you must also hold the full Diploma in Fire Systems Design.  Our team will package your required units up to include what you need if you do not already hold this.

Recognition of Prior Learning & Credit Transfers

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment only process. RPL captures evidence from a student who has learnt a relevant unit in other courses, from life or work experience, and from any training at work. This ‘Prior Learning’ must be relevant to one or more of the units of competency they are enrolling in. A student who is assessed through RPL as competent in a unit is deemed to have completed that unit in the course.

If you believe you have completed a unit of competency in another formal learning experience, you may be eligible for a Credit Transfer (CT). You will have to provide a certified copy of the Statement of Results or Statement of Attainment through the enrolment process as evidence. If a CT is identified, you will not have to complete the unit again.

If you have any questions about the RPL process, your eligibility, or the evidence you would be required to produce you can read more about it here, or get in touch with us here.

Qualification & Statement

On successful completion of the units, students will be issued a Statement of Attainment. Dependent on the number and combination of units, the student may be eligible for a Diploma of Fire Systems Design.

Pathways & Career Opportunities

Students will develop skills that lead to:

  • Work opportunities that include scope to carry out work in some Australian States and Territories
  • Increased employability within the Fire Protection Industry
  • Further study to obtain other Units of Competency which are relevant to a variety of fire occupations.
  • Units of Competency that may assist in applying for licences from:
  • Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme — FPAS (NSW)
